Using Storytelling as a Tool to Change Your Life
Using Storytelling as a Tool to Change Your Life by Nigel Baldwin
The American poet and political activist Muriel Rukeyser said “The universe is made of stories, not atoms.” Ursula K. LeGuin has been quoted as saying “There have been great societies that did not use the wheel, but there have been no societies that did not tell stories.” And yes, alright, they are both quotes by storytellers but these statements would suggest that storytelling is pretty important to all cultures. Elsewhere I have said (and I’m by no means the only one) that storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we can use to change our lives. How exactly? How does storytelling help us change our lives more than, say, political action or direct protest? Apart from the fact that political action etc. might not change anything or, even if it does, it might not effect lasting change that sort of process is an external process. Storytelling on the other hand, either as the giver or the receiver, has a hidden internal process.
It can engage us emotionally, intellectually or both and the stories can have a hot line to our subconscious, essentially sidestepping the need to rationalise the narrative. Like insightful music or art it engages us at a deeper level. Profound stories are a lover’s arrow to the heart. And the story is working its magic at a deeper level while we are being engaged, entertained and maybe even laughing heartily. Our willingness to suspend disbelief as we immerse ourselves in the journey allows the story to access our inner being. And since a story will nearly always offer us empathy somewhere it will also be participating in the healing of our wounds. Stories can also help people who are seeking to change their lives by offering different ways of living. They can provide practical solutions to some of our problems and inspire us to great things which, at other times, might astound us. Read the rest of the Fabulous Article
5 Great Reasons Why You Should Write Articles And Submit Them Online
5 Great Reasons Why You Should Write Articles and Submit Them Online by Peter Alfieri
Well, if you’re reading this, then you must have some interest about writing online. Until now you obviously have had more reasons NOT to write an article as opposed to reasons why TO write; I can make such a bold statement because every day we subconsciously make decisions based on weighing the facts. It is one of the basic truths known in the world of psychology. Another obvious reason, you’re reading this at this very moment and that alone shows that you have some interest. Hopefully I can give you a few solid reasons for writing articles online. I certainly can make this a lengthy article. However, keeping this brief will make this more appealing. So, I’ll keep this article short and to the point.
#1:
Writing can liberate you, sometimes a person can only or best express themselves though writing. Such expressions through online writing allows that person to reach worldly proportions. Sometimes by reaching out to other people we feel like we have done a good deed.
#2:
We often find that there are others with the same problem and we are not alone. Common problems can form friendships or a brother/sister-hood over great distances. This can be used as an outlet or maybe even help us find a solution that we had not thought of prior to publishing the article.
#3:
If you write a quality article you may earn popularity with the major search engines like Google, MSN, Ask, and many others. Popularity can be very fulfilling, the thought of having an original concept that has helped many can be inspiring by itself.
#4:
Quality articles can generate traffic to your website. This isn’t the most important reason to write an article; I say that because spamminess (or, articles written for personal gain), is often frowned upon by the hosting article submission site. There is a certain code of conduct that many article submission sites abide by, just about every hosting site has rules that I recommend reading prior to submitting. In contrast, an article written through inspiration and lack of personal gain will certainly direct traffic to your website.
#5:
Lastly, writing can educate you! Typically, writing requires thought, research, and structure; all of which bring you closer to becoming an expert on a particular subject. This is the only personal gain that article submission sites approve of or encourage their writers to attain. If fact many submission sites reward authors with banners, praise, or even promotion on the World Wide Web.
Well, there you have it! I hope that I shed some light on a subject of interest by supplying a few facts that may improve your quality of life and the lives of many others. Choose to write articles, I doubt that you’ll be dissapointed!
